Dust off the cobwebs ... the ALBERT course is on!
Sam Matters and Kane Doull had a ripping time last year, showing up some of the oldies learning new skills in the IRB.
The weekend involves a dry session with video presentations and talks from the experts. Then everyone hits up the beach for demos on the sand – you learn how to get in and out of the ducks and some cool tricks for speedy rescues. Then it’ll be time to hit up the water. You team up and practice what you’ve learned, all under the close supervision of the trainers who give such great feedback after each run you do.
The training is for all levels of experience. If you have your IRB Driver or Crew qualification, don’t miss out and sign up now! Places are limited.
When: The date changed to the weekend of 14 & 15th October.
Where: Bermagui Surf Club. Camp at the club overnight if you want!
Cost: Free. Lunches and dinner provided.
First Aid Course
We're holding a formally recognised first aid course on Sunday 15th October. This is run by an external company who will provide the latest work cover recognised HLTAID011 certificate.
This course is available to the public too, so there’s limited spots available. Gaining this certificate is great for employment and in the workplace too.
Cost: Free for all patrolling members. Subsidy available for all other members.
How to apply: Register with Ben Bate. You will be required to complete online theory prior to the 15th - which isn’t hard at all.
Bronze Medallion & SRC courses
A Bronze Medallion is the basic qualification needed to become a surf lifesaver. If you're over the age of 15 you can and should sign up! You'll learn great life skills, gain confidence with gear and equipment and join a patrol team to volunteer in your community. For more info on what's involved, click here.
What: The bronze course involves 10 sessions with trainers at the club. The sessions will run on Wednesdays and Sundays beginning 1st November.
When: Wednesdays 5.30 – 7.30pm and Sundays 9am – 12pm.
The SRC course will commence on November 1st also and runs the same dates as the bronze with everyone training together. However, the SRC course only consists of 6 sessions (so will finish two weeks earlier than the bronze).
If you already have your SRC and want to upskill to your bronze, please register your interest.
IRB crew and drivers courses
No dates planned yet. Please register your interest if you'd like to upskill for the season and we can arrange a course for you.
Bronze and SRC requalifications
These will be undertaken on patrols under the supervision of our patrol captains.
